I DON'T want to know what that would imply for Dolby Surround.

Agreed on managing songs, I'm just talking quickly playing something in
jack.

For song collection management may all-time favorite is Mozilla Songbird.

It's built by the creators of WinAmp, based on XUL, so you can use the
same player as your Windows Free Software Soft Convertees, and there's a
picture of two birds having sex on their web site.

They say it's a dev preview but I found it extremely usable and beautiful.

No Jack backend though, which is why I didn't mention it at first... But
we could lobby for it.
