I started having some problems with xruns recently (once I started
going beyond working only with soundfonts in the soundcard) and it
turned out that jack was failing to acquire realtime privileges. This
turns out to be a known issue with Ubuntustudio. It can be remedied by
making sure you have lines such as the following somewhere in
/etc/security/limits.conf :
@audio - rtprio 99
@audio - memlock 512000
@audio - nice -10
