Hi Rob,
interesting thought....
> Maybe a lot of people making music with Linux are just making do
because they can't afford the 2 or 3 grand involved in getting a decent
Mac notebook and the commercial software required to make music at a
level beyond GarageBand, but the truth is, much of the music I've heard
here is pretty uncompromising.
That's an important fact. The "problem/situation/whatever" is, that a
lot of home
recorders/semi-professionals use windows tools for free (no guess, it's
true) though
there aren't free at all. And therefore they compare quasi-free tools.
Best example: photoshop. It's a silly habit. Some friends of mine
compare photoshop with
gimp, saying gimp sucks because it lacks of certain functions but they
forget that
there is a gap of at least 500€ from gimp to photoshop they wouldn't
want to pay if they had to.
That has nothing to do with people who compare tools on a basis where
they posses
or are ready to pay the amout for the commercial application.
Best regards,
Sebastian.
