I wouldn't say that. Five Linux machines here, including KUbuntu on my
non-musical wife's desktop. Not a single installation of Pulse on any of
them. And I can do my ordinary desktop audio things without running
JACK, either.
I think Pulse is overkill for Joe Ordinary User's desktop needs, and
roadkill for pro audio needs. So I guess I still see no need for Pulse
whatsoever.
