The sound source for spandril-22 is indeed a short sample of an
acoustic instrument - a violin. This is pitched down and granulated,
then fed through a resonant low-pass filter and some distortion. As a
sound engineer (primarily) I really enjoy this process of
'composition' which consists of tweaking the parameters of various
units (and the lfos controlling them) until I get a pleasing result.
Generally speaking I judge a composition's success by the number of
times that I want to listen back to it myself - in the case of
spandril-22 it seems to be popular with other people too. Which is
nice.
