hard real time scheduling is available to linux now with more or
less trouble. rtlinux puts a small scheduler under the kernel that
controls the interrupts, nothing in the linux kernel level can lock its
resources.
see rtlinux.org and follow the redirect.
by the way i've made several utilities including one that can view
an akai sample cd with gtk, and a somewhat realtime sampler that uses akai
samples, the code works completely fine in user space, but i'm just
starting to integrate it into rt linux. yell if anyone is interested and
would like me to put these up somewhere.
