Wasn't that the thing that used tertiary instead of binary numbers?
What about MLAN? Does anyone know anything about it? IIRC, you can send several channels of MIDI and audio, using a ieee1394 network. It's being developed by Yamaha, and i think it will be in their samplers soon.
Although it doesn't solve the basic problems with the MIDI protocol.
