I for example like doing flexible and generic backend stuff - thats most
fun for me. Other than backends, for instance GUI programming (which is
quite important for an end user product, I admit) totally suxx and is
not fun at all. So usually I fight against GUI hacks (that would make
a nice feature, but in the end causes lots of maintainance problems) and
rather have no GUI than a broken (from design, not feel) one.

And I'm not really interested in audio - it just happened I did the
backend(s) for GLAME :)

I always wondered if there are any patent issues with edl? GLAME does not
use edl, but sort of similar in feature divided scheme of a filesystem
like backing store with a layered structuring on top of it (well that
was very brief, if you're interested ask).

Again, most of us are doing software development for fun (and for their
_own_ fun), fame is another thing, but (at least for me) fun is more
important. Speaking of QT vs GTK - making a choice is easy, but trying
to support both worlds is not (GLAME chose GTK because of a lacking C
interface to QT and license issues (not valid any more)).

While I dont know adour/AES very much I'm sure AES like things are quite
common (say esd, nas, arts, ... - ok not quite the same, but you'll get
it). So if AES (need to look at it in detail) proves to be good in
design and gets wide use (chicken and egg problem), concentrating on
AES is fine (mag will do AES support for GLAME).

If "have your code used" is "used in compiled form", i.e. users of GLAME
then I dont care that much (well, its cool to have users, but important
users are contributing users). If "have your code used" is used by
sharing the code within other projects, then yes I'd be proud of that.

Fame is never a problem. No fame, too.

Just have fun! Remember we dont get paid for anything.
