wholeheartedly no. who's going to help the newbies if the advanced
users are all on the other list ?
even though it's getting simpler every day to have mailing lists, i
think there are too many already. every little tool has at least
one. (cat-new-features-announce anyone ? or cat-newbies ? cat-gurus
? cat-devel ? cat-advocacy ?)

splitting up a community too much is a Bad Thing.

agreed.
but since i don't even have shell access to linux-audio-dev, i
couldn't check if it runs mysql or something.
btw, the page is not as static as it looks :)
there is a little php going on, you can add new pages or subsections
easily. but you are right, i would die for an underlying database.

i've been playing with nope as well, and found it pretty
light-weight, although hard to get running.
i need to learn some more SQL stuff to be able to set up a secure
site, but i actually have nope running on my devel box, and i had
intended to set up a nope forum as the first page on the lad site.

seen it. looks nice, but used to have horrible security problems
when i last checked, so i didn't take a closer look. might be sorted
out now, don't know.

nice one.

that's a great advantage.

great.
which box will host it ?
last time i checked, the php module on linuxdj.com was so f&%$§ing
ancient you couldn't even do basic authentication stuff, so i gave
up implementing a mechanism for news submissions.

-.-

if you set up such a beast, i'm on the bus.
however, i would like a few things to remain as they are, namely the
color scheme (corresponding to the logo), the static pages and the
correctness of the code, which currently is pretty rotten ;-)

did i mention that nitpicker is my middle name ?
