for very long files, you need an editor that does not load the
entire beast to memory. i know snd and glame can handle that.
snd is powerful, but many features are only accessible by a guile
command line. so my editor of choice is glame. it has a strage
concept of organizing files, but once you are past that, it's very
good.
editing is no problem, and for the hiss, you can use LADSPA
equalizer plugins.
