Well, preferably not more than $500 all-in.

And one of the candidate 'quiet' enclosures has only one
PCI slot.

I have 2-off coax from my gear rack to each (stereo) speaker location.
The cable is in-wall. I plan to have power amps local to the speakers.

Now, this could be:
 - monoblock with passive crossover (xo) [for completeness only]
 - biamp with split passive xo
 - biamp with crossover on the rack, or at the amp
 - digital xo (with line drivers?) to the amps
 - digital xo with SPDIF to each speaker and the DAC in the speaker

I'd really like to try the last of these, using some kit DACs.

I'd hoped to source by ripping directly and feeding the digital xo
with the clock from the card, but fallback is to take SPDIF input
from a CD source and clocking from that.
