Only if you want to use the same device to get the digital audio data
off - it's worthwhile in many ways to get a minidisc home deck which has
S/PDIF outputs and inputs.

In short, no. You don't really want to do that anyway - get it out as
standard S/PDIF 16 bit PCM at 44.1 KHz sampling rate, and store it and
edit it as WAV files, or convert to MP3 or ogg vorbis if you don't have
the disk space.
