I've never used that sound card, but according to the alsa docs the alsa0.5 module for your card is snd-card-opl3sa2.o, and the alsa0.9 module is snd-opl3sa2.o. So you seem to be confused between alsa versions and the corresponing module names. The INSTALL file in the alsa-driver tarball contains a list of supported cards and relevant module names.

. btw - if you are building from source you should really be going for alsa0.9 anyway, as 0.5 is deprecated
