Our busy, switched LAN -- if you're dedicating a fabric you
can clearly do much better, of course, but I'm not familiar
enough with what happens in that limit of operation to say
what the latency anomolies, if any, will be.
I do note that these people have solved this problem using
Ethernet NICs:

and the fact that they had to do something different than
just use a vanilla TCP stack, and that they have a list
of "approved Ethernet hardware vendors", ect, would indicate
some gremlins may be lurking ...
