Hi all,
Has anyone here heard of any efforts to get mLAN working under Linux? For
those who haven't heard of it mLAN is a pro audio protocol over 1394
(Firewire, iLink etc.) that allows very low latency digital audio and
MIDI streams to be sent and received. Its generally good, and will end
world hunger etc. etc. ;)
I'm also lurking on the linux-1394 list, and they seem to be doing well,
but are concentrating on video (I haven't bugged them though).
mLAN support would give linux a real head start in pro audio as
it would remove the need for support for 101 different wacky multi-channel
soundcards, as you just use a generic 1394 card. Also, the possibility of
making a cheap harddisc recorder from a rack-mounted linux box with a
1394 card in it is... interesting.
mLAN cards are already available for Yamaha's digital mixers, and top of
the range synths and Korg's latest offering, with more due soon.
